It is reported that AIDS patients suffering from acute pancreatitis risk is 35 to 800 times the normal population, mainly because: (1) some of the drugs used to treat HIV infection have a direct toxic effect on pancreatic acini; (2) Immune deficiencies make it susceptible to pancreatitis; (3) Some people living with HIV abuse alcohol, which can cause alcoholic pancreatitis. This article mainly analyzes the etiology and epidemiology of acute pancreatitis associated with HIV-1 infection.
