From the beginning of this century, the competitiveness of Western European countries has declined. Two years ago, the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, released a message saying that among the 117 countries and regions it surveyed, Germany and the United Kingdom, due to the lack of economic growth and high budget deficits, The rankings of several major European economies, such as France, Italy and Spain, have all declined. Italy’s ranking dropped steadily from 26th place in 2001 to 47th place. It has fallen behind Tunisia and is only ahead of Botswana. Europe is under pressure. But Barry Eichengreen, a prominent international economist at the University of California, described in his 2006 book “The European Economy since 1945: Coordinated Capitalism and Beyond” the strong economic development in Europe since World War II, and pointed out that European economic performance has benefited from historical accumulation in the past and will continue to do so in the future. This article by the Economist is a commentary on this book, but it is also a search for a recipe for the future economy of Western Europe and a challenge to the global knowledge economy. In this lesson, we can learn a very useful slang (see note 3). It can be seen from this that Westerners think of the poor as “waste or waste” in their hearts. Therefore, economic development is an absolute principle for underdeveloped and developing countries. In addition, although the content of this article is serious, the headings are vivid in terms of not using pressure and using squeeze to represent “stress”. The specific image enhances the readability of the article.
