At the age of 16, David Hockney was well aware of his interest in the human body even at the beginning of his professional art training at Bradford Academy of Art, including even the essentials of portraiture. In a recent collection of paintings, we were fortunate to have seen works spanning 50 years spanning from the baffling self portrait portraying David Hockney at the age of 17 in 1954 to 2002-2003 Drawing extraordinary watercolor huge, eye-opener. For a time, plastic arts and hand-drawn paintings were constantly under attack by minimalist, conceptual art, performance art, installation art, video art, and various forms of “realistic” work. However, Hockney still maintains the belief that the portraits shown in front of us should always be enchanting.
