Objective To investigate the effect of umbilical cord abnormality on pregnancy outcome in third trimester of pregnancy. Methods A total of 366 pregnant women of the third trimester who were delivered in Hechi City Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region were enrolled in this study. Umbilical cord abnormalities were divided into abnormal group and control group. The delivery, fetal distress rate, neonatal asphyxia, Perinatal mortality and full-term low birth weight fetal rate. Results The rate of spontaneous delivery in pregnant women with abnormal group was significantly lower than that in control group, and the rate of cesarean section was significantly higher than that in control group (all P <0.05). The rate of fetal distress, neonatal asphyxia, Child mortality and full-term low-birth-weight fetuses were significantly higher than the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P <0.05). Conclusion Abnormal umbilical cord terminates the pregnancy when the abnormality is mild, while the maternal and infant life safety is more serious than that when the umbilical cord is abnormal. Prenatal examination and coping measures can largely prevent the adverse consequences.
