Different color LED’s threshold voltage is not equal. You can take advantage of this to simplify the general display circuit. In the two-color display shown in figure (a) (on the next page): the switch is turned off and the green LED is lit. When the switch is turned on, the red LED is lit and a voltage drop of about 1.5V is produced, which is exactly the same Slightly lower than the green LED threshold voltage, so the green light is not bright. This concept can be extended to multicolor displays. E.g. Figure (b) (see next page): The red LED is the gate G_1
