Langston Hughes was deeply influenced by Bruce and Jazz in African-American pop music. In his poems about the American dream, Langston Hughes not only expressed the sadness that blacks can not dream of in a racist society, but also expressed the idea of using laughter instead Tears of this vision of a better future. The American dream in Hughes’ poetry is both a disappointment with the real society in the United States and a longing for the natural world without black and white discrimination.
