Being told I would be expected to talk here, I inquired what sort of talk I ought to make. They said it 16 be something suitable to youth—17 didactic, instructive, or something in the nature of good 18. Very well, I have a few things in my mind 19 I have often longed to say for the instruction of the young; for it is in ones 20 early years that such things will best take root and be most enduring and most valuable. First, then, I will say to you my 21 friends—and I say it beseechingly, urgently.
Always 22 your parents, when they are present. This is the best policy 23 the long run, because if you dont, they will make you. Most parents think they know 24 than you do, and you can 25 make more by humoring that superstition than you can by 26 on your own better judgment.
Be 27 to your superiors, if you have any, 28 to strangers, and sometimes to others. If a person offend you, and you are in doubt as to 29 it was intentional or not, do not resort to extreme measures; simply watch your chance and hit him with a brick. That will be sufficient. If you shall find that he had not intended any 30, come out frankly and confess yourself in the wrong when you struck him; 31 it like a man and say you didnt mean to. Yes, always avoid violence; in this age of charity and kindliness, the time has gone by for such things. Leave dynamite to the low and unrefined.
Go to bed early, get up early—this is 32. Some authorities say get up with the sun; 33 say get up with one thing, others with another. But a lark (百灵鸟) is really the best thing to get up with. It gives you a splendid reputation 34 everybody to know that you get up with the lark (早起); and if you get the right kind of 35, and work at him right, you can easily train him to get up at half past nine, every time—its no trick at all.

  三、阅读理解(共15小题,每题2分,满分30分)
  A
As a young man, Al was a skilled artist, a potter with a wife and two fine sons. One night, his older son developed a severe stomachache. Thinking it was only some common intestinal (肠的) disorder, neither Al nor his wife took the condition very seriously. But the boy died suddenly that night.
Knowing the death could have been avoided if he had only realized the seriousness of the situation, he always felt he was guilty. To make matters worse, his wife left him a short time later, leaving him alone with his sixyearold younger son. The hurt and pain of the two situations were more than Al could stand, and he turned to alcohol for help. In time Al became an alcoholic.
As the alcoholism progressed, Al began to lose everything he possessed—his land, house, etc. Finally Al died alone in a small bar. Hearing of Als death, I thought, “What a totally wasted life! What a complete failure!”
As time went by, I began to revalue my earlier rough judgment. I knew Als now adult son, Ernie. He is one of the kindest, most caring, most loving men I have ever known. I saw the love between Ernie and his children, thinking that kindness and caring had to come from somewhere.
I hadnt heard Ernie talked much about his father. One day, I worked up my courage to ask him what on earth his father had done so that he became such a special person. Ernie said quietly, as a child until I left home at 18, Al came into my room every night, gave me a kiss and said, “love you, son.”
Tears came to my eyes as I realized what I had been a fool to judge Al as a failure. He had not left any material possessions behind. But he had been a kind loving father, and left behind his best love.
  36. Why did Als older son die suddenly?
  A. Because his older son thought it was common intestinal disorder.
  B. Because Al and his wife were delayed by something important.
  C. Because his older son did not develop a severe stomachache. D. Because Al and his wife did not take the condition seriously.
  37. Why did the author come to tears?
  A. Because he would become a special person.
  B. Because he misjudged Al as a failure.
  C. Because he was ashamed of his fool deeds.
  D. Because he was moved by Als love.
  38. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
  A. Als younger son developed a severe stomachache.
  B. The death of Als older son could have been avoided.
  C. Al is addicted to alcohol, so he often goes to the bar.
  D. Al is a kind loving father, for he left his son a large fortune.
  39. What made Ernie a special person?
  A. His fathers love.
  B. His fathers seriousness.
  C. His fathers kindness.
  D. His fathers carelessness.

Chinas box office revenue in 2014 hit 29.6 billion yuan ($4.77 billion), registering a 36percent growth year on year. This performance has not only exhilarated domestic film producers but also become the envy of their foreign counterparts.
Chinese consumers have increased their recreational spending in recent years with rising income levels and an increase in discretionary funds. The large audience base has in turn boosted the film industry. The number of domestically produced films has seen explosive growth. Whats more astounding is the growth of box office sales. In 2010, the countrys total box office revenue was 10 billion yuan ($1.61 billion). It took three years for that number to double and only another year for it to reach a figure close to 30 billion yuan ($4.83 billion) last year.
Many Hollywood studios are eager to grab a share of Chinas huge film market. However, its far from easy for foreign films to successfully break into the Chinese market. According to a quota system, only 34 foreign films can gain access to the domestic market each year on a revenuesharing basis.
This protective measure has contributed to the domestic film industrys rapid expansion. However, Chinese films have yet to gain influence and recognition commensurate with this expansion. In terms of management and production technology, they still lag far behind Western countries. Opening the market wider to foreign movies may provide one way to help the Chinese film industry catch up.
In fact, the domestic film industry has continually opened up to its foreign rivals over the past decades. After the reform and openingup drive was launched in the late 1970s, the film market experienced a period of recession due to insufficient funds, technology and talent. Against this backdrop, China started to reform its film industry and open the market to foreign productions. A quota system for imported films was introduced in 1994, through which box office revenue is shared between domestic distributors, cinemas and foreign producers. Before the revenuesharing model was put in place, foreign films entered the Chinese market either as part of cultural exchange programs or by selling their copyrights to China. The new system, which has made it possible for foreign films to compete with Chinese ones for domestic viewers, has injected impetus to the countrys film market. The market, however, needs to further open up to the world so that filmmakers in China can emulate their foreign counterparts on a levelplaying field. This would represent an effective way for Chinese films to enhance competitiveness in the global market.
  40. What can we infer from paragraph 1?
  A. Chinas box office revenue grew quickly and became successful in 2014.
  B. Chinas box office revenue exhilarated domestic film producers in 2014.
  C. Chinas box office revenue became the envy of their foreign counterparts in 2014.
  D. Chinas box office revenue reached its highest in the global market in 2014.

  A. boosted film industry and large audience base
  B. explosive growth in domestically produced films

Industry experts are worried about the improper use of drugs for children at home, and advise parents to consult pediatricians in dosage to protect children from any risks.
Xu Shuxiang, executive vice secretarygeneral of the China News of Drug Information Association, told Xinhua that misuse and overdose are major mistakes made by Chinese parents.
“Some parents medicate their children based on their unprofessional experience, which may lead to misconduct,” said Xu.
According to a report by the China News Service, a survey showed that up to 32 percent of children given medicine in China was deemed “improper” conduct, and that 12.9 percent of children would have an adverse reaction to medication, nearly twice that of adults.
In Shiqiaocun village in the central province of Henan, parents have little understanding of childspecific medicines and many villagers were “put off” by the taste of childrens drugs and so just reduced the dosage of adult medications. Even in metropolis like Beijing, some parents have medicated their children randomly.
Qin Jie, 27, said that when she was young, her mother used to give her half an adult dosage. “My mother would split the pill and give me one half,” said Qin. “However, I will be more careful with my child.”
Xu called on all households to consult pediatricians, regularly check their family medicines, keep an eye on their children after drug use, and timely report it to pediatricians if any discomfort occurs.
Thanks to years publicity efforts, Xu said, the cases of misusing antibiotics to cause children deafmute have been largely reduced, and awareness of safe dosages for children has improved in recent years.
However, lack of childspecific medicines is another concern of industry experts.
According to the China Food and Drug Administration, China had around 3,500 drug product categories with less than 60 specifically intended for children, and 90 percent of drugs do not come with children dosage information.
Beijing Childrens Hospital pharmaceutical office director, Wang Xiaoling, said “many products do not have child dosages and in some cases adult medication can cause an overdose.”
Wang said that infants, especially newborns, were at risk of harm due to incorrect dosages, as their organs were still developing.
From 2011 to 2013, there were 1,098 types of drug products used in pediatric clinics in 15 hospitals, but only 45 were exclusively for children, said Wang, citing the results of a medical survey.
Despite the shortage of child medication, pharmaceutical companies are weary of branching out in to the sector, due to increased costs, approval procedures and other risks associated with producing medicine for infants and children.
In 2014, the National Health and Family Planning Commission together with other five departments issued a guideline to tackle the shortage, vowing more support.
The guideline said that China would streamline the approval procedure; encourage research and clinical tests; and issue favorable pricing policies to support development of childspecific medicines.
  44. According to Xu Shuxiangs opinion, what major mistakes did Chinese parents make?
  A. Improper use of drugs.
  B. Misuse and overdose of drugs.
  C. Little understanding of drugs.
  D. Unprofessional experience of drugs.
  45. All of the following measures can be taken EXCEPT if any discomfort occurs? A. consult pediatricians
  B. regularly check family medicines
  C. keep an eye on children all the time
  D. timely report it to pediatricians
  46. In order to support development of childspecific medicines, what would China do?
  A. Leave out all approval procedures.
  B. Encourage research and clinical tests.
  C. Intervene favorable pricing policies.
  D. Issue children dosage information.
  47. What information can we learn from this passage?
  A. Regularly check family medicines can tackle the improper use of drugs.
  B. All parents have little understanding of childspecific medicines.
  C. Wang Xiaoling said that only newborns were at risk of harm.
  D. Industry experts are concerned about lack of childspecific medicines.

Over 100 million people sent gift money via mobile apps during the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday, according to Alipay, the payment system run by Chinese Internet giant Alibaba.
The period from last Wednesday, or Lunar New Year Eve, to Saturday was the peak for gift money with a total of 4 billion yuan (about $652 million) paid via the epayment platform, according to figures released by Alipay.
Giving “lucky money” in electronic form has become a trendy spin on the Chinese tradition of giving red envelopes, or “hongbao,” filled with money to children on Lunar New Year Eve. The custom is more than 1,000 years old.
Alipays figures suggested that, unlike the tradition of elders giving red envelopes to children, over half of those sending “ehongbao” were people in their 20s from the cities of Shanghai, Hangzhou, Beijing and Guangzhou. They gifted money to relatives and friends in their mobile contact lists, according to Alipay.
Several Internet companies, including Tencent, Alibaba, Sina and Baidu, released red envelope features to grab a slice of the epayment market for the holiday. Users must link their debit or credit cards to their accounts to send the gift money.
“Lucky money” payments worth one yuan were the most popular choice with over 19.5 million oneyuan ehongbao given during the holiday. Ehongbao in 88yuan denominations were also popular and 3.2 million were exchanged during this years festivities.
  Related story:
Red envelopes help WeChat capture mobile payment use, by Meng Jing, China Daily.
More than 3 billion red envelopes were sent and received online via WeChat, the most widely used mobile messaging application in China, during Spring Festival this year. Statistics from WeChat, which is owned by Internet giant Tencent Holdings Ltd, showed that 3.27 billion red envelopes had been sent and received by WeChat users between Feb 18 and Feb 23 with 1.01 billion of them being exchanged online within 24 hours on Feb 18.
At the peak time, which came in the first two minutes on Feb 19, as many as 1.65 million red envelopes were opened on WeChat every 60 seconds.
It seems that male WeChat users were more generous than their female counterparts. Out of all the WeChat users that gave online red envelopes, 52 percent were male while 53 percent of all the recipients were female.
Regionally speaking, People in South Chinas Guangdong province topped all other provinces in China in terms of the number of red envelopes given via WeChat. Guangdong is followed in order by Zhejiang province, Beijing city, Jiangsu province and Shanghai city.
The game of giving red envelopes online was invented by WeChat during the 2014 Spring Festival in order to gain new mobile payment users. Many Internet companies have followed suit and introduced their own red envelope services this year.
Alipay, Chinas largest online payment tool backed by Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, said on Tuesday that more than 100 million people in China got into its red envelope service during Spring Festival holiday, which ended yesterday.

  C. It is the money that young people give to relatives and friends in their mobile contact lists.

  四、任务型阅读(共10小题,每小题1分,满分10分)
  请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。注意:每个空格只填一个单词。
Its easy to gain a few pounds over holidays, especially for the Chinese as the Spring Festival and its component family feasting are nearing. To get rid of those “holiday fat”, however, is not that easy. Following is what you are supposed to do to avoid putting on extra weight.
  Stay active
One of the major causes of weight gain during the holidays is lack of activity. Time is spent doing holiday errands, which makes us more tired, less motivated, and not wanting to stick to our routine.
Best thing to do is to stick to your regular schedule. Not only will it help keep weight gain down, it will give you more energy and it will reduce your stress.
  Dont starve yourself
Many people think before attending New Year feast, they should go hungry all day so that they can “afford” the calories later on.
The truth is you may be so hungry that you will forget about any sense of the word moderation or control. The right thing to do is to make sure to eat your normal and healthy meals before the New Year feast.
  Choose healthy recipes
There are some healthy options that you can eat during the holidays. For the cookers of the family, really think about the ingredients that you normally use and then think about how you can make the dish healthier.
  Sleep
Lack of sleep not only leads to stress, it can also lead to weight gain. Some studies have shown that losing sleep can affect your metabolism and the secretion of cortical, one hormone that regulates appetite. Think of a good nights sleep as a necessity (much like oxygen) to keep you sane and keep your stress and hormone levels in check.
  Exercise
Working out may seem like the last thing you have time for, but its essential for keeping your weight in check and your stress at manageable levels. Try circuit training and focus on using compound exercises, so you work more than one muscle group at the same time.

  五、One possible version:
Good morning, everyone! It is my honor to be here to share with you my opinions on what to learn in senior year.
In senior year, our school life will be especially challenging. First and foremost, we should learn how to learn efficiently, for it is extremely busy for our senior year students. So developing a good habit is of great importance. In the past year, what benefited me a lot was to preview lessons before class, get actively involved in class and review what had been taught after class.
Secondly, reflection after class is also of great benefit. Our senior year is full of classes and examinations. Therefore, what matters most is our reflection ability, which can help us solve difficulties and confusions.
Last but not least, we should learn how to get along with others. Not only is our senior year full of chances of growth, but it is also full of challenges. So it is friends and classmates encouragement that helps us get through these difficulties.
No pains no gains, I am sure that with your great efforts, you will enjoy a fruitful life in senior year.
  Thank you! (167 words)
