The theory of metaphor proposed by Lakoff holds that the essence of metaphor is to understand and experience another thing with one thing and the connection between neurons. The connection is realized by partial reflection, that is, only the concept of the source domain Some of the feature attributes are mapped to the target domain. However, in its mapping theory, Lakoff does not explain the operation mechanism of the metaphorical mapping, that is, which characteristic attributes in the source domain will be mapped and which do not occur the mapping, and the mechanism of its occurrence, Reasonable explanation of the problem of metaphor asymmetry. Based on previous researches such as neurobiology and cognitive neuroscience, this paper argues that the root cause of metaphor asymmetry lies in two important mechanisms in this neural mapping process: selection and suppression.
