In the suburbs of Xuchang, the average rainfall over the years is 75 mm, of which 70% is concentrated in seven, eight and nine three months; and the annual evaporation is 1200 mm, much larger than the annual rainfall. The soil is mostly silty loam in the area, shallow groundwater depth of 8 to 9 meters. Although a well and channel supporting project has been built, the lack of water supply in the channel water source and the small single-well water discharge can not meet the requirements of suburb irrigation water and seriously affect the normal agricultural production. In order to explore new ways to increase water saving in such water-scarce areas, the Municipal Water Management Station, with the help of the Provincial Water Science Institute and the Regional Water Science Institute, conducted a pilot seepage experiment
