普宁市博物馆于80年代在文物普查时发现了牛伯公山遗址。1995年9~10月,广东省文物考古研究所与中山大学人类学系考古专业联合组成发掘队,在普宁市博物馆的协助下,对该遗址进行了第一次发掘。牛伯公山位于普宁市城区东南12公里处下架山镇的汤坑村汤坑水库东侧(图一),为大南山脉北麓的一座山岗。其山势从东向西倾斜,东西较宽而南北略窄。遗址堆积分布在山岗的西、南坡。山的西面有汤坑河自南向北流过,50年代经截流修建成水库,遗址高出河流水面30~40米。
Puning City Museum in the 80’s artifacts census found Niube Boghan site. From September to October 1995, the Guangdong Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archeology and the Archeology Department of Sun Yat-sen University Department of Anthropology formed a joint excavation team. With the help of Puning Museum, the site was first explored. Beaufort Mountain is located 12 kilometers southeast of Puning City Town, the town of Tangshan Tangjiakeng Tang Hang Reservoir East (Figure 1), is a mountain north of the Great Southern Range. Its mountain slopes from east to west, things wider and slightly narrower north and south. Ruins stacked in the hill west, south slope. The west of the mountain has the Tangkeng River flowing from south to north, and the dam built into a reservoir in the 1950s. The site is 30 to 40 meters above the river surface.
