The “Purple” epistolary novel by the American black woman writer Alice Walker embodies the author’s feminist thoughts in all aspects. Among them, the application of the characters’ names in the novel is also an artistic expression. In the novel, the author, through deliberate neglect or appending of names, embodies the despise of patriarchal dictatorship and the call for female consciousness, exposing the awakening of the self-awareness of black women under the dual oppression of racial discrimination and sexism, The aspirations of families and societies for equal status and self-worth.
