文化大革命的风暴结束之后,转眼间,又经过了十一年的岁月。1973年的夏天所开始的激烈“批孔”运动,在今天看起来,的确就像是一场恶梦一样。当时,孔子被当作是大恶人,不允许辩解。然而,当时的日本孔子研究,则是抱着冷静的态度。大致说来,日本学者对孔子都抱有好感,可是又认为从孔子以后开始的儒教,对整个漫长悠久的历史而言,却是功罪相半。特别认为儒教的道德学说,因其不能和新的自由、平等、民主的思想融合在一起,把它视为是古老的封建伦理,而对它敬而远之。“批孔”运动时,我所考虑的,乃是孔子
