Health care is an important modern event, which means that disease and health transcend individuality into the field of public administration, thereby establishing the connection between individuals and modern nation-states on the physical level. Therefore, there is a series of texts in Yan’an literature that urgently transform people and the demands of the society to take the medical and health events as the main plot, which is tentatively referred to as “medical narrative.” In Yan’an Literature, there are not only the texts devoted to the rural areas, but also the trace of “modernity of health” in rural narration. At the same time, medical humanism of Western medicine and its authentic modern knowledge identity in the texts of medical and health incidents and western doctors as the main plot and protagonist have unique meanings for the exploration of human nature and enlightenment discourse. This is why Ding Ling should set the protagonist in the hospital as a medical intellectual (midwife) instead of the more familiar literary intellectual Yan’an himself. With this, we can also reveal another aspect of this novel.
