The secondary tank fire was a very serious disaster after the earthquake. Tank fires that took place in the Niigata earthquake in Japan (1964) and the Izmir earthquake in Turkey (1999) have caused enormous economic losses and casualties. On the basis of studying experience of seismic damage of storage tanks and experiences of earthquake damage from secondary fires, it is proposed that the following events should be considered in the event of secondary fires affecting their earthquakes: The degree of damage to the auxiliary facilities connected to the tank, the degree of damage to the power supply system and the various types of collision sparks during an earthquake. A fault tree model for evaluating secondary fires of oil storage tanks was established. The evaluation model can be applied to the risk assessment of secondary fires caused by earthquake in oil storage tanks and provides countermeasures for preventing secondary fires in oil storage tanks and urban earthquake disaster reduction and disaster relief services.
