This article reports on the observation of 40 workers with benzene and 60 patients with leukopenia caused by benzene exposure. Their lymphocytes were significantly lower than the control population. The detection rate of absolute lymphopenia (<1,000 / mm ~ 3) was 5% in workers and 15% in patients. The detection rates of suspected lymphopenia (<1,200 / mm ~ 3) were 25% and 50% respectively. Observations show that only leukocyte counts can not detect all the lymphopenia in workers exposed to benzene at an early stage. Because benzene workers suffer from lymphocytic leukemia cells immune function is also low, early diagnosis is very important to them.
