Many authors believe that estrogen-containing oral contraceptives may alter the liver function of some normal women (BSP retention, temporary increase in transaminases) and suggest that oral contraception should not be taken until complete recovery of acute viral hepatitis. However, a WHO commission said that estrogen does not aggravate viral hepatitis. The authors observed a panel of 34 women, 14 of whom used oral contraceptives throughout the course of acute viral hepatitis and 20 to the point where jaundice and elevated aminotransferases reached their peak. The second group of 34 women as controls, who had acute viral hepatitis during the same period, had the same treatment but had never taken an oral contraceptive. The two groups of the same clinical and biochemical diagnostic criteria, duration of hospitalization, hospital stay, experiment
