Since its publication, the Harry Potter series have been hot in the world. In China, the translation of magical, non-realistic elements has made this series of books popular among readers. The magic element is not only an essential part of the story in the series, it is also the source of the magical charm of the story. Starting from Nida’s theory of functional equivalence, this article analyzes the translation of the magic elements in the Chinese version of Harry Potter from the perspective of semantic equivalence, reciprocity of readership and the role of cultural exchange. At the same time, To explore translation techniques used in translation aims to prove that the theory can be applied to the translation of children’s literature magical literature to achieve the functional equivalence between the target language and the source language.
