In 2012, Shanghai’s publishing was active in foreign copyright trade. It imported 1,408 titles, up 148 titles, or 11.7% year on year; and exported 342 titles, up 46 titles, or 15.5% over the last year. With a considerable import and export increase, Shanghai was productive in copyright export.
Shanghai’s foreign copyright trade featured the follows. First, a narrowed trade deficit. In 2012, the trade deficit was 4.12:1, lower than 4.26:1 of the last year. And it realized trade surplus against Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea etc., with a high surplus of 1:3.08 against Hong Kong. Second, a changed copyright export structure. In 2012, Shanghai exported 142 titles to European counties and America, 41.5% or the biggest part of the total exports; and exported 120 titles to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, 35.1% of the total, down 13%. The figures reflect the structural change of Shanghai’s copyright export which mainly resting on Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan before. Third, a stably increased copyright import. America, Britain and Japan were the three biggest copyright exporters. 446 titles were imported from America, up 2.8% year on year; 358 from Britain, up 23.9%; and 186 from Japan, up 31.9%.
