The study explored the influence of native language thinking (Chinese) on the process of English writing for non-English majors, using writing tests, survey questionnaires, recollection records of writing process, and follow-up interviews, and qualitative and quantitative analysis of the data obtained. Native language thinking has the greatest impact on the pre-writing phase (especially the problem-solving phase) and has minimal impact on the text output phase. The higher the level of English, the less the influence of the native language thinking. High-level students and low-level students are most affected by native language thinking in the problem-solving stage, while middle-level students are most affected by native language thinking in the conceptual stage; but the three groups of students are the least affected by native language thinking in the text output stage.
