一蒙古文音节el为准确记录蒙古语中汉语借词的语音,历代蒙古文人创制了特定的字母及音节,专门用于拼写汉语借词。据有关学者研究,1912年,喀喇沁右旗贝子海山在其著作《蒙汉合璧五方元音》中,首次将注音汉语借词“二”的音节el加进了蒙古文十二字头。其实,在清代早期蒙译汉籍中,用el拼写汉语“尔”的现象比较常见。顺治元年(1644)告竣的蒙古文《元史》写本拼写人名和地名,除r以外,还用el拼写汉语“尔”。例如:

In fact, in the early Qing Dynasty Mongolian translation of Chinese, the el spelling Chinese “Er ” phenomenon is more common. In the first year of Shunzhi (1644), the spelling names and place names of Mongolian “Yuan Shi” written in Mongolian were also spelled “el” by el in addition to r. E.g:
