India’s national economy has developed rapidly, with its GDP growing at an average annual rate of about 8%. The economic development has boosted the consumption of petrochemical products. As a representative olefin industry in the petrochemical industry, there is great potential for development. The current situation of supply and demand of olefin products in India is ethylene and propylene production capacity is insufficient, and the production capacity of polyethylene and polypropylene is slightly surplus. It is estimated that the total production capacity of ethylene, propylene, PE and PP will reach 3.2 million tons / year and 2.09 million tons / year respectively by 2010 , 2.14 million tons / year and 1.97 million tons / year. India’s olefins industry faces many challenges as it grows, including rising gas prices, rising raw material prices, corporate financing, continued mergers and acquisitions, drastic tariff cuts and the rapid development of the Middle East petrochemical industry.
