The glaciers in Glacier Bay criss-cross over half of the world’s tidal glaciers. The largest pan-Pacific glacier is about 40 kilometers long and more than two kilometers wide and about 100 meters high, as if it were a giant wall on the edge of the bay. Due to global warming, glaciers in Glacier Bay have been melting and receding. Today, all of the 18 glaciers in Glacier Bay are isolated from the giant glacier 200 years ago; the glacier, named after the scientist Mauser, has been back eight kilometers in the past seven years. Glaciers left behind after the retreat, quickly occupied by various plants. More than 200 years ago, it was a glacier, and now it is a lush forest where hundreds of animals such as wolves, brown bears and moose are inhabit.
