李锐在《张马丁的第八天》中把其关注视角从家族史、革命史转向不同文明的激烈冲撞中人性与信仰问题的探讨。虽然这部小说并没有在艺术上超越其以往作品而成功开辟一个新的艺术境界,甚至在一些关键情节的处理上不无瑕疵,但鲜明地体现出其创作的过渡性。作者将对民族文化的反思突破到了中西信仰文化碰撞的领域中去,开始在全球文化背景中探讨文化身份认同的问题,在李锐创作生命转型过程中的意义不能忽视。
Li Rui explored the issue of human nature and faith in the violent collision of different civilizations from his family history and revolutionary history in “The 8th Day of Zhang Martin.” Although this novel has not succeeded in opening up a new artistic realm beyond its previous works in art, even in the treatment of some key episodes, it is a clear indication of the transitional nature of its creation. The author has made a breakthrough in the reflection of national culture in the field of collision between Chinese and Western religious beliefs and started to explore the issue of cultural identity in the global cultural background. The significance of Li Rui's creative life transformation can not be ignored.
