President Xi Jinping Meets with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen
President Xi Jinping met with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on February 5.
President Xi noted that as the government and people of China are battling the novel coronavirus outbreak, Cambodia has shown that a friend in need is a friend indeed.
Xi said that China will work more closely with Cambodia and other countries in the spirit of openness and transparency to respond collectively and effectively to the epidemic and ensure public health security in the region and beyond. China will take good care of all Cambodian nationals (including students) in China like its own, and protect their life and health.
Hun Sen said his decision to visit China on such short notice is for no other purpose than to demonstrate the strong support of the Cambodian government and people for the Chinese government and people. During this trying time for China, the Cambodian people stand firmly with the Chinese people to confront the difficulties together, just as any true, dedicated friend would do.
Hun Sen noted that some countries have taken restrictive measures that are unhelpful and not warranted by the epidemic. The only thing more fearful than the epidemic is panic. Cambodia will continue its scheduled cooperation and exchanges with China, and remains committed to working with China for a Cambodia-China community with a shared future.
Xi Jinping Meets with Visiting WHO Director-General
Chinese President Xi Jinping said on January 28 that China has the full confidence and capability to win the battle against the outbreak of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus.
Xi made the remarks during the meeting with visiting World Health Organization(WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
The Chinese people are now fighting a very serious battle against the epidemic, said Xi, adding that the people’s safety and health always come first, and thus the prevention and control of the outbreak is the country’s most important task at the present time.
The Chinese government has released information about the epidemic in a timely, open, transparent, and responsible manner, responded to concerns of all sides actively, and enhanced cooperation with the international community, Xi said. China is ready to work with the WHO as well as the international community to safeguard regional and global public health security, Xi said.
China is fully confident of its capability to win the battle against the virus with concerted efforts, scientific containment, and targeted policies under the strong leadership of the CPC, said Xi.
Tedros said it is admirable that the Chinese government has shown its solid political resolve and taken timely and effective measures in dealing with the epidemic.
He said that China has released information in an open and transparent manner, identified the pathogen swiftly in record time and shared the genetic sequence of the novel coronavirus in a timely manner with the WHO and other countries.
China’s measures are not only protecting its people, but also protecting the people of the rest of the world, he said.
Hailing the high speed and massive scale of China’s moves are rarely seen in the world, Tedros said it showed China’s efficiency and the advantages of China’s system.
The WHO firmly supports China’s measures against the epidemic and stands ready to enhance cooperation with China and provide all necessary assistance, Tedros said.
