The smart substation is a new trend in the development of substations. The configuration of relay protection is an important part of the smart substation. Its development is of great importance to the construction of a smart grid. Power grid reform is of great significance. In this paper, starting from the technical specifications of relay protection configuration in smart substations, the future development of the substation is prospected and discussed.
