The South China Sea trough is located in the waters of Japan’s southwest coast, which is one of the most active seismic zones on earth. The South China Sea Trough Seismic Belt Experiment (Seismo-Belt Program) is a complex marine drilling project that includes drilling, observing the earthquakes beneath the sea surface and deep into the earthquakes, collecting samples of boreholes by installing them deep in the sea floor Sensor records to study the earthquakes associated with rocks and their frictional properties. This will reveal the interaction between water and rock during the subduction zone earthquake and further understand the process of earthquakes and tsunamis.
