This article aims to discuss the impact of the patriarchal society under male-centered ideology and the resulting difficulties that the theory of feminism has shown in the movie Alice Does not Live Here Anymore. It points out the dilemma of female identity in the film and even in the present society: refusing actively and giving up passively. This makes the theory of feminism, which is based on gender and takes the banner of autonomy, slipped into the binary opposition and delay of the main body “presence ” and “absence ”. This article intends to interpret the identities of women in the film broadly from the perspective of feminism so as to highlight the “different voices” of women.
