Objective To explore the related factors of transient cerebral ischemic attack (TIA) progressing to cerebral infarction. Methods The clinical data of 143 TIA patients admitted to our hospital from March 2010 to January 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. Results There was no significant correlation between gender, coronary heart disease, alcohol and tobacco history, hyperlipidemia, and progression of TIA to cerebral infarction (P> 0.05), age, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and cerebral artery stenosis ). The incidence of TIA was significantly higher in patients with cerebral infarction (P <0.05) when the frequency of seizures was more than 3 times per day, with severe neurological deficits and the seizure time was longer than 30 minutes. Conclusions The progression of TIA to cerebral infarction is caused by many factors, especially related to the patients’ age, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cerebral artery stenosis and seizure frequency. It deserves clinical attention.
