Some people compare global warming with the “war on terror” and believe that the human outlook depends on whether or not this “anti-global warming war” is won. The United States is the largest emitter of greenhouse gases. According to statistical data, of the 26.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide emitted in 2004, the United States accounted for 22.1%. However, the Bush administration withdrew from the “Kyoto Protocol” on the ground of economy and employment in 2001, and has since refused to issue policies to limit greenhouse gas emissions. Comparing the mission to be undertaken with the landing of the moon, Nobel Prize winner and former US vice president Gore urges the country to take up the obligation to cope with climate change: to produce 100% renewable clean energy within 10 years.
