Objective To investigate the relationship between serum resistin and leptin and insulin resistance in children with metabolic syndrome. Methods A total of 60 children with metabolic syndrome and 57 age-matched normal controls were enrolled in this study from January 2012 to March 2013 in our hospital. Fasting serum resistin and leptin levels were measured, and their height, body weight, blood pressure, blood glucose, blood lipids and insulin levels were measured. Body mass index (BMI) and insulin resistance index (HOMA) were calculated. Results Serum resistin levels in patients with metabolic syndrome were significantly higher than those in normal controls [(28.26 ± 11.7) μg / L vs (19.44 ± 5.79) μg / L, P <0.01]. Compared with the normal control group, the serum leptin levels were significantly higher (1.37 ± 0.52 μg / L vs 0.32 ± 0.15 μg / L, P <0.01). Conclusion Serum resistin levels in children with metabolic syndrome, leptin increased significantly.
