Chlorination of Wofatit Ks-10 (a sulfonated styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer) with a mixture of PCl_2-POCl_3 gave a cation exchanger containing an N-chlorosulfonamide group (RSO_2NClH) . The resulting SO2Cl group is then reacted with NH4OH and NaOCl to yield the Na type N-monochlorothiimide group which reacts with HCl over the N-chlorosulfonamide group.
