Admittedly, David Yorkley “influenced the fate of American operas,” as the New York Times put it. He is in full swing in his career, but also depends on the factors of favorable conditions. Born in Philadelphia, he studied vocal music early and later earned a master’s degree at Columbia University in New York City (awarded by the School of Business). In 1970 he just got the master’s degree, he served as the Houston Opera’s business manager. Two years later, he was promoted to the director of the opera house when he was only 27 years old. As an outstanding art leader and businessman in charge of business, Mr. Crowley represented Houston, while at the same time taking the lead in succeeding leaders by unconventional means. He gradually brought elements close to the masses into the opera and changed the opera, a traditionally art form that belonged to the upper class. And this model is right for Houston - a city that has always been proud of the local team.
