The “crescent house” (Crescent House) designed by the Japanese architecture firm shigeru ban architects is located in the southern part of Hakone, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The name of the design comes from the outline of the building C shape. The building is supported by wooden pilings and the ground floor is empty. The living room on the second floor is surrounded by a glass and stairwell surrounded by four sides and extends all the way to the first floor space. The floor of the building is curved upwards, forming walls and roofs, separated by sliding glass doors and windows, allowing residents to enjoy the beauty of the north. The exterior structure of the building frames the occupants with a view of Mt. Fuji in the distance, and at the same time, it can block the line of sight from the neighbors in the east and west and south. The two bedrooms are located at the two ends of the building. In the middle is a composite space that integrates the living room, the dining room and the kitchen, separated by partitions. The largest space in the house is the living room. The architect does not use the traditional pillars to support the longest spanning cantilever roof, but instead uses the fireplace and chimney to support it.
