As the art form of Chinese culture, traditional Chinese painting has always been based on the cultural foundation to demonstrate its basic characteristics and cultural pursuit. Needless to say, poetry is one of the most important components of this thick foundation, which also constitutes a uniquely cultural perspective. However, observing today’s traditional Chinese painting, especially the mainstream Chinese painting, is quite a danger in name only. The latter follow the Japanese painting more and more like western oil painting, and the only tools are the materials. This has to be thought-provoking: where will the future of traditional Chinese painting go? In this issue, we invite Li Hongzhao and Zhao Tingren to talk about the basis of poetry and traditional Chinese painting.
