新疆有色金属研究所是一个以稀有金属锂铍钽铌选矿、锂铷铯冶炼和有色金属、贵金属选冶技术工艺为主体的研究单位。该所始建于1958年10月。自建所以来,特别是党的十一届三中全会以来,始终坚持立足新疆,面向生产,为生产服务的方针,以有色为主,兼搞黑色金属、非金属等矿种的技术工艺研究。先后完成锂铍钽铌综合回收工艺、含砷脉金联合选矿工艺、铯铷合金生产工艺、制取铬盐工艺、含砷金精矿焙烧工艺、硫酸法制取碳酸锂工艺、钽铌锆铪水冶分离工艺和新型选矿设备研制以及分析测试技术等方面的研究项目近200项,其中66项已转化为生产能力,38项获部级以上技术成果奖。该所在各类稀有金属、重有色金属、
