林文铮教授是我院创始人、首任教务长,他于1989年10月5日辞世,于今二年多了。文铮先生晚年否极泰来,回到西湖玉泉故居颐养天年,我便有机会常去看望请教他。先生知识渊博,记忆力极强,谦谦风度,使我受益良多。他曾嘱我为他找一本旧著《何谓艺术》(上海光华书局印行),久未能得。去年他病重住医院,又提此事,我与友人终于在某图书馆尘封中觅得此书,遂复印一本给他。先生手捧旧著,神色灿然,置诸枕下,直至弥留。《何谓艺术》自序有云:“现在编成这本小册子不过是想在中国艺术的歧路上树立一块小小的指路碑,以便 Professor Lin Wenzheng is the founder and first dean of our college.
