There have been many scholars have studied the role of thyroid hormones on tissue protein metabolism, but did not get consistent results. Isotope tracer method is of great significance to study the role of thyroid hormones in nitrogen metabolism. Karp et al found that in hyperthyroid rats, the rate of deuterium incorporation into hepatic proteins increased, whereas in the case of thiouracil this rate was slightly lower than in normal animals.
