Jacques Lacan believes that children are often unable to perceive their own integrity through self-perception. Due to the lack of time-related sense of space, sense of movement, he even regarded his body as a pile of broken objects and fear. Children up to 6 to 18 months old will be able to use the image reflected in the mirror to gain an overall picture of the basic structure of their body. Of course, what Lacan calls “mirror stage” means providing the subject with a whole through the external mirror of itself so as to define the self clearly.
