大黄也称黄良、将军、火参、肤如。主产于青海、甘肃,四川等地。以青海产“西宁大黄”质量最佳。现《中国药典》药用的品种为蓼科植物掌叶大黄、唐古特大黄或药用大黄的干燥根及根茎。秋末茎叶枯萎或次春发芽前采挖,除去细根,刮去外皮,切瓣或段,绳穿成串干燥或直接干燥。以质坚实、断面锦纹明显、色红棕、气清香、味苦而微涩、嚼之粘牙者为佳。大黄名字的由来关于大黄,民间还有一段传说。据说,从前有个黄姓郎中,承袭祖业,擅长采挖黄连、黄芪、黄精、黄芩、黄根这五种药材为人治病,被誉为“五黄先生”。
