In 1989, “Mississippi is Burning,” won seven nominations for the Meritus Academy Awards and was awarded the “Best Picture,” “Best Director,” and “Best Cinematography” awards by the National Association of Film Critics. In the context of the Ku Klux Klan’s brutality in the southern part of the United States in the early 1960s, this film arouses Americans’ inner feelings of racism with a high degree of artistic appeal and is of practical significance. In dealing with such harsh themes, the film adopts the form and style of “detective film” commonly used by the American film industry. At the same time, it uses two types of detectives with different backgrounds: Anderson with a southern background and China’s advocate of traditional detection Germany, deepened the theme.
