全新的展览方式,使得印象派以更快的速度传播到欧美各地,聪明的画廊经纪人总是以相对较低廉的价格收藏当代艺术作品,因为他们知道,收藏当代就是收藏未来,收藏未来就意味着积累巨大的财富。因此,当法国的大多数收藏家以及博物馆还没来得及认清印象派的价值的时候,大洋彼岸的美国收藏家及欧洲其他国家的收藏者们都已经看清了这个当代艺术流派的未来,这使得印象派的代表作品纷纷散落到世界各地的收藏家手里,并最终被北美和欧洲各国的艺术博物馆收藏。这一方面使得印象派有着比此前任何一个艺术流派更广泛的国际性和更多的观众群,另一方面也分散了法国本土对印象派精品的收藏。尽管法国专门为印象派建立了一个奥赛博物馆,但是印象派大师的一流名作却在法国所剩无几,这也就是为什么此次法国文化年在中国美术馆展出的绝大部分作品都不是代表作的原因。
