新文学时期,作为舶来品的话剧艺术一直是在欧风美雨的沐浴下不断成长,作为创作主体的剧作家们亦是在东西方戏剧大师的艺术荫翳下逐渐地走向成熟,中国现代话剧泰斗曹禺所走过的艺术道路即证明了这一点。最初的曹禺是在现实主义戏剧巨子易卜生的引领下走入戏剧园地的。《雷雨》、《日出》这两部为曹禺赢得至尊地位的辉煌剧作的内里,无疑饱浸着《易卜生全集》的艺术精髓。然而年纪轻轻就已声名斐然的曹禺并未因此驻足,而是驾着艺术之舟复又西航,寻求与世界最新的艺术潮流对话。从当时 In the period of New Literature, the art of drama as imported goods has been continuously growing under the shower of European style and beautiful rain.
