1920年前后,中国知识界围绕“情感”问题展开了数次论战。这些论战虽是分属于新旧文化论战、东西文化论战和科学与人生观论战等的局部论争,却因所涉论域的深广度而自有其独具的思想和文化意义。论战的参与者均为当时知识界有代表性的人物,论战涉及情感与思想、与科学、与法则等的关系问题、东西方情感的品质差异问题,以及情感在宇宙观和人生观的确立中的位置问题等诸多方面,触及情感自身的性质、品质,以及其所体现的民族文化特性和新旧文化差异、中西文化差异等诸多层面。其中所折射的,是知识界对于中国社会和文化的现代性想象的分歧,是对于新文化发展道路的选择的差异,迄今仍具有丰富的启示性。
Around 1920, the Chinese intelligentsia held several polemical discussions about the “emotion” issue. Although these controversies are part of the local controversy pertaining to the polemics of the old and new cultures, the controversies between Eastern and Western cultures and the relations between science and life, they have their own unique ideological and cultural meanings due to the breadth of the domain in question. The participants in the polemics are the representative figures of the intellectual circles at that time. The controversy involves the relationship between emotion and thought, the relationship with science and law, the quality difference between east and west emotion, and the emotion in the establishment of cosmology and outlook on life Location issues and many other aspects, touch the emotional nature of their own, as well as its embodied national and cultural characteristics of old and new cultural differences, cultural differences and many other aspects. What is reflected in it is that the intellectual community’s disagreement on the imagination of the modernity of Chinese society and culture is the difference in the choice of the road to the development of the new culture and it has so far been richly enlightened.
