一沈从文一再表白他是以超功利的艺术家的情感接近人生、体验人生、选择人生的,在创作上追求人性美,以“人性”为创作的基石。这种美学追求,使他建构的“希腊小庙”,虽不乏艺术精品,但颇似远离尘世的深山古刹,虽可博得游人一览,但对投身于民主革命激流的大多数读者来说,是无暇赏顾的。正因为如此,他的作品,他所建构的希腊小庙,他所勾画的“湘西世界”,他所诗化的人性王国,与战斗的三、四十年代的文学主潮是没有多少直接联系的。
