崇尚自然的中国人,喜欢以物喻人,托物言志,寄情于物,凡欲有所表达,皆以写物为手段,文学家如此,艺术家也是如此。文学、艺术作品中各种自然物的象征意义,有的是单一的,大部分是复杂的。有时因地域不同、文化背景不同,人们对同一物象有不同的解读,如“南人喜鹊而恶乌,北人喜乌而恶鹊”等。有时因时代不同,物象的含义也不同,如果对特定的历史文化背景不了解,很容易产生误解,例如本文要探讨的鸳鸯。
