大果、味甜、硬肉、离核及耐贮运的鲜食桃是北京市平谷区主要引种目标之一,为解决桃品种耐贮运性差、离核品种不配套问题,更好地为桃树更新储备优良品种;1997年开始从北京市农林科学院林业果树研究所引进了桃新品种“早玉”进行栽培试验;结果表明:“早玉”为优良的中熟桃新品种。果实近圆形,平均单果质量195g,白肉,硬肉,硬度大,风味甜,离核,耐贮运,丰产。在平谷区7月底成熟,果实发育期为93d;花蔷薇形,有花粉。早玉栽培表现优良,适应性强,商品性好,可以作为桃更新换代品种在平谷区发展,目前发展面积达到400hm2。
