Senegal is a founder member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) created in 1975 whose general objective is to integrate the economic activities of its member States.In the field of trade,its objectives are as follows:To abolish customs duties between member States;to remove quantitative and administrative barriers to trade;to set up a unified system of customs duties;to remove all barriers to the free movement of persons and services within the Community;to set up a common monetary system.To achieve certain of its objectives,ECOWAS has introduced a trade liberalization scheme which is not yet being effectively applied in all the member States.Senegal is also a beneficiary of the following organizations:the US African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA);the Economic Partnership Agreement being negotiated with the European Union;New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD),in the access to developed country markets chapter;the provisions of the African Union.
