Objective: To investigate the relationship between the expression of E-cadherin and Slug in tumor tissue and tumor pathological features and prognosis in patients with gastric cancer. Methods: Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of E-cadherin and Slug in 82 cases of gastric cancer and to analyze their relationship with the pathological features and survival time. Results: The positive expression rate of E-cadherin was 47.6% and the positive rate of Slug expression was 39.0%. The difference of E-cadherin expression rate was related to the N stage of patients. The positive expression rate of Slug was related to the gender, T stage and N stage (all P <0.05). The expression of Slug in E-cadherin N staging, M staging, venous invasion, hematogenous metastasis and retroperitoneal recurrence, while the expression of Slug was correlated with T stage in E-cadherin group (all P <0.05). E-cadherin expression retained the 5-year survival rate (79.5% vs.60.5%). The 5-year survival rate of Slug-positive patients was lower than that of Slug-negative patients (59.4% vs 74.0%, P <0.05). The expression of E-cadherin Group, the 5-year survival rate of Slug-positive patients was significantly lower than that of negative patients (48.4% vs.87.5%, P <0.05), while there was no significant difference between Slug positive and negative patients (58.3% vs.68.4%) (P> 0.05). Conclusion: The expression of E-cadherin and Slug is mainly related to the TNM staging of gastric cancer. The positive expression of Slug in patients with E-cadherin expression is predictive of adverse prognosis.
