刘开渠(1904-1993),安徽省萧县人。1927年毕业于北京艺专。翌年赴法国巴黎高等美术专门学校,在著名雕塑家卜舍教授指导下攻读雕塑专业。1933年回国,任杭州艺术专科学校教授兼雕塑系主任。1949年出任国立杭州艺术专科学校校长。1951年任中央美术学院华东分院院长,并被选为杭州市副市长。1952年调到北京,参加天安门广场人民英雄纪念碑的兴建工作,担任设计处处长兼雕塑组组长,负责创作人民英雄纪念碑正面的《胜利渡长江、解放全中国》、《支援前线》和《欢迎解放军》大型浮雕。1959年任中央美术学院副院长。1963年任中国美术馆馆长。历任中国美术家协会副主席、全国城市雕塑规划领导小组组长、全国政协常委、全国文代会代表、第一、二、三届全国人大代表。
Liu Kai (1904-1993), Xiao County, Anhui Province. 1927 graduated from Beijing Art College. The following year to Paris, France Art Higher School, under the guidance of the famous sculptor Professor Bu She sculptured sculpture. Back in 1933, he served as professor of Hangzhou Arts College and sculpture department director. In 1949 as the National Hangzhou art college president. 1951 Dean of the Central Academy of Fine Arts East China Branch, and was elected vice mayor of Hangzhou. He was transferred to Beijing in 1952 to participate in the construction of the Monument to the People’s Heroes of Tiananmen Square, where he served as the head of the design department and the leader of the sculpture team. He was responsible for creating the front lines of “Victory in the Yangtze River, Liberation of China,” “Frontline Support” Welcome People’s Liberation Army "large relief. In 1959 the vice president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. 1963 China Art Museum curator. Former Vice Chairman of the Chinese Artists Association, the National Urban Sculpture Planning Leading Group Leader, the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, the National Assembly, the first, second and third National People’s Congress.
