The new cultural history is a new exploration in the field of Western historiography in the recent 30 years. The admirer thinks it is the third stage of development of history after traditional historiography and neo-historiography, and even believes that this new exploration together with other new changes in the field of social science and humanity foretell the arrival of a new Renaissance. Opponents Think of it as a “game of thought that gazes at the navel,” turning history into nothingness. Based on the analysis of the works of the new cultural history, this article argues that the unique historical image presented therein is not only the personal interest of a few scholars, but also the innovation aimed at the problems within the historiography and the challenge of the external post-modernism. His practice embodies the academic spirit of openness and the research orientation of comprehensively reproducing history. Therefore, although it seems too early to assert that the new cultural history opens up a new historical paradigm, at least for now, it represents a notable direction for the study of modern history.
